Governor Jim Pillen celebrated the opening of a new $20 million automotive training centre at Central Community College in Hastings. The Gosper Building, covering 42,000 square feet, will accommodate 70 automotive and 20 autobody students, enhancing practical skills. First Year Instructor Nick Kelley highlighted growing enrolment and the need for advanced training in modern automotive technology. The facility includes five classrooms, a welding lab, and space for electric vehicle maintenance, addressing industry demands. TechForce Foundation reports a shortage of skilled technicians, with 140,000 needed annually, underscoring the importance of such centres.
Why it matters for your car
The centre helps address the shortage of skilled technicians, ensuring drivers have access to well-trained mechanics.
If maintenance uncovers an engine warning light, AutoScan for Windows can read and clear standard fault codes through a compatible ELM327 adapter and show live data and freeze frame information.
