CapMetro has introduced overhead pantograph chargers at two new park-and-ride stations in Austin, supporting its electric bus fleet. The Goodnight Ranch and Expo Center terminals feature rapid charging infrastructure for the Rapid 800 and 837 bus routes. Camber Charging installed two 1,440 kW systems at the main bus depot, enabling simultaneous overnight charging for 48 buses. Each pantograph charger allows buses to recharge at the end of each line, enhancing operational efficiency and range. New Flyer’s Xcelsior battery-electric buses are equipped to handle Austin’s traffic conditions with up to 320 hp.

Why it matters for your car

This infrastructure reduces the need for lengthy charging periods, ensuring consistent service and reducing range anxiety.

For plug-in hybrids, AutoScan for Windows can read standard engine and emissions fault codes through a compatible ELM327 adapter; charging-system and high-voltage faults require vehicle-specific equipment.
