Between April and June, the UK witnessed a significant rise in private electric vehicle registrations, with almost 100,000 new EVs added. The surge in private EV ownership is attributed to lower running costs and narrowing price gaps between used electric and petrol cars. In England alone, the increase in private EVs was 85,573, marking the largest among all UK nations during the period. The AA's analysis reveals that charging an EV at home costs about 7p per mile, compared to 17p for petrol cars. Used EVs are becoming more affordable, with prices now just 1% higher than petrol equivalents on average.
