Used car retail values dipped in September, marking the first decline of the year, but electric vehicles maintained strong demand. Ex-fleet EVs saw a 1.6% increase in value, with prices rising by nearly £2,000 over six months. Diesel vehicles faced the steepest decline, dropping 1.8% as fuel prices surpassed £2 per litre. Car supermarkets were the most aggressive buyers, increasing prices by 1.7% compared to independent traders. Electric vehicles now represent 13% of three-year-old vehicles on dealer forecourts, up from previous months.
Why it matters for your car
Drivers benefit from higher residual values of electric vehicles, making them a more attractive used car option.
For plug-in hybrids, AutoScan for Windows can read standard engine and emissions fault codes through a compatible ELM327 adapter; charging-system and high-voltage faults require vehicle-specific equipment.
